Why You Should Interview Your Potential Down Line

Did you know that the top network marketers rarely accept all applicants into their given opportunity?

What did I say?

That’s right, if you look at the top gurus in the field; they will tell you that often times during the interview, yes interview, they make a decision to let the “signee” go.

Well, you say…if I had the kind of money they have maybe I could do that too.  I need every person I can get!

Here’s what you should know.

You do not need to have anyone or everyone that’s willing be a part of your downline.

 Let’s look at the why…

  • People who sign up just to sign up are often not going to dedicate themselves to success – there’s no motivation.
  • You’ll spend an incredible amount of wasted time trying to bring these individuals along.
  • Some companies, like the one I’m with, allow you to purchase and place affiliates in their downline; at a cost to me.  I don’t know about you but I don’t want to waste my time or money on someone that isn’t excited, motivated, and substantial.
  • People who aren’t motivated will drag the team down and in essence drag your business down.

How do you weed these individuals out?  You talk to them.  People, we need to be talking to our potential team-mates before they sign on the dotted line.  We need to find out what we are dealing with and if the are ready to join our venture.

So what kind of questions do we ask?  Here are a few examples:

Why interested about this business?

You may have touched on this with your initial contact, but it’s important to revisit the “why”.  When someone decides on a company they decide for their own personal reasons.  It’s important to get in touch with your down lines “why”.  Not only can you encourage them in it, but it will help you understand them better as they pursue it.

How much are you looking to earn in this business?

The answer to this question is as important to you as it is to them.  You’ll be able to identify what they are trying to achieve and also, what resources they will need from you in order to help them reach their goals.

What is your budget?

As in any opportunity it’s important to discuss what kind of budget that you’re working with.  In order to turn a profit, we need to keep control of our finances.  It may be inexpensive to join, but what will it cost to keep active?  How much time, money, and travel is involved?  What are they willing to spend?

How much time are you willing to commit?

We talked about budgeting money, now let’s talk about budgeting time.  How much time will they have to support and achieve success in their new business venture.  Are they willing to set aside the hours it may take to get set up and then move ahead?  Every MLM requires dedication and consistency to achieve the kind of success that will meet the goals that produce the “why” answers.

What do you think will be your major struggle in this business?

Let’s take a look at what the struggles will be right up front.  If we confront the hurdles, out in the open…we will be able to support, offer advice, and answer the tough questions.

So there it is in a nutshell.  Ask the questions, get to know your potential downline, and find out if he/she has what it takes to be in MLM and Network Marketing.

You might find that this isn’t for them and that they’ll struggle so much, with the basics, that it would be best for them to move on.

You may also find that you have what they need to succeed in MLM and Direct Sales.  That through diligence and support they are exactly who you are looking for.

Either way…Don’t skip the interview…you need to know what and who you’re dealing with.  It’s important for you and for them!

To your success,
